This exhibition represents my work from October 2006 to August 2007. It continues the development of my ideas on the female form in outdoor/indoor space, and the connectivity and relevance of such subject matter in conjunction with still life, interiors and landscape. Other sources of ideas were derived from literature, mythology and history. My overall aim is to create an alternative world of paint, in which I can express myself. However, I have always strongly felt that for me, the whole reason for painting is the action of painting itself, which is governed by its own rules and regulations. The act of painting is inextricably involved with the physicality and the properties of the paint, how it behaves in conjunction with its neighbouring passages of paint and how this ultimately sits in the whole dynamic of the overall composition.
For me, it is this interaction and interplay between the dictates of the subject matter and physical qualities of the paint that continually challenges, surprises and fascinates me. A resolve is only reached when the paint presents itself to its best advantage, in that it retains its inherent properties of luminosity, texture and form, and that the marks and line produced create a sense of vitality, readability, cohesion and movement. It is the resolving, juxtaposing, deconstructing and constructing of these elements that makes a painting complete.
